Atmel- or Fun cards

Atmel-Fun cards:

There are lots of different Fun card types:
- Original Fun card, sometimes called Fun card 2 (with 64 Kbit Eeprom)
- Fun card 3 (with 128 Kbit Eeprom)
- Fun card 4 (with 256 Kbit Eeprom)
- Fun card 5 (with 512 Kbit Eeprom)
- Fun card 6 (with 1024 Kbit Eeprom)

Fun card 2:
Fans of the Fun card choose this card because of its large memory and also because the Atmel processor (90S8515) is very fast which helps during zapping. The faster the card, the faster you have a picture on your TV when you switch channels. But one shouldn't over estimate the effects of the faster processor. The card is only partially responsible for the delay when zapping through the channels.
Below you can see the traditional Funcards in the 24C64 (8Kb or 64Kbit) Eeprom version:
On the left card you can clearly see the soldered feet of the Atmel processor which (on this card) is placed on the other side of the PCB using HMD technique. The Atmel processor is equipped with its own internal memory, but the Fun card offers an additional external eeprom of 64Kbit (8Kbyte).

Apart from the traditional versions, pictured above, there are other versions available with fancy prints on them. Below you see (from left to right) the Purple Galaxy, the Open Platform Funcard and the backside of the Open Platform Funcard. Despite their different looks, they still contain the same components (90S8515 + 24C64).
