The Funprogrammer USB: (Category Other programmers)

This is the new Fun programmer from WB Electronics. It will do all currently available Fun cards and AT Mega cards, as well as the Jupiter 1 and Jupiter 2 cards.

The Funprogrammer USB should be regarded as a direct competitor for the parallel Fun programmers like the Funprog and the Apollo. It clearly targets that part of the market. There are some differences though. Or maybe I should say, there are some similarities too. The number of differences is much larger than the similarities.

As you can see in the picture below, the Funprogrammer USB is fully encased, which the Funprog and the Apollo are not. And if you are familiar with the new WB Electronics range of products, like the Infinity USB and the Infinity USB Phoenix, you will notice that this Funprogrammer USB is simply another addition to that new Infinity series. To avoid confusion though, they have dropped the "Infinity" part from the name and called it plain Funprogrammer USB.

InfinityUSB Cased

Please make sure that you insert the cards with the contacts facing DOWN.

The Funprogrammer USB is, as its name suggests, connected to your PC via a USB interface.
You operate the programmer with the Infinity software. I have tested this programmer with Infinity version 1.30.
What I found a little strange is that it is a fraction slower than the Infinity USB Phoenix when it comes to programming a card. And after a lot of experimenting, it looks to me that the speed loss comes all down to switching programming modes. It just seems to hesitate a fraction longer when switching from Flash to Eeprom and vice versa.

As with all current USB programmers, the Funprogrammer USB can program cards only by using the dedicated software. So you can only use the Infinity USB software. But look at it this way: the Infinity software can handle a much bigger variety of cards than any software package for the Funprog or Apollo can.

If you are in the market for a Fun programmer, then put this one on your shortlist too. If you have a USB port available on your PC, you will probably end up buying this Funprogrammer USB instead of one of the parallel competitors.
