MultiPro Firmware |
|
| Tested September 30 2003 Firmware modification for the MultiPro programmer. This firmware Was supplied by Ziezotec: For all Multipro programmers that are not yet able to handle the large Eeproms as used on the Funcard 5 and Funcard 6 for instance, there is now a firmware upgrade available. Installation of the new firmware is easy enough to do it yourself. This is how it's done: What you need: - a screwdriver (philips type) - a chip puller - the chip containing the new firmware One tip up front: Chips can easily be damaged by electrostatic discharge. There are special anti static mats available to prevent damage like that, but not everybody is likely to have such a mat. So what can you do to prevent damaging the chip? Well, you can simply discharge yourself by taking hold of a metal object. Preferably a large object like the tubes of a central heating system for instance. Just take a firm grip with both hands, that should do it. OK then, on with the installation. Step 1: Disconnect the MultiPro from your PC. Make sure you disconnect both cables or you risk damaging your programmer during the operation. Turn the programmer upside down and remove the 4 little black rubber feet (see photo).
Step 2: Unscrew and remove the 4 philips screws and carefully take the programmer apart. While doing that, look closely how it is fitted, so that you can assemble it correctly later. Below you can see the programmer completely disassembled.
Step 3: Now we are getting to the real job at hand. Remove the chip, preferably with a good chip pulling device. As you can see on the photo below, there is only very limited space. Especially for the type of chip puller that I have got here. If you do not have a chip puller, you can use a little (non magnetic) screwdriver and carefully lift the chip, little by little, working at both ends alternately. Do not try to remove one side at once or you will damage the chips feet. And you never know if you may need it ever again. Pay special attention to the correct orientation of the chip, when inserting the new one. There is a marking on the chip (a little dent) which should point in the direction of the card slot. Also make sure that you do not bend the chip feet when inserting the chip. All feet should slide nicely into the socket.
That's it. You can now start to re-assemble the programmer. While putting all the bits together, you should make sure that the cable is guided nicely through the cable outlet. If you don't do that properly, you might damage the cable later, when screwing the unit together again. Now all you need to do is download CardPro version 2.0 (or above) and you are up to date). Success. | |
